Visioning sessions were conducted with staff, administration, and school board to decide what would all be needed and included in the new elementary school. Community meetings were held to discuss the options for the elementary school and what could be done to mitigate the issues. It was determined that a new elementary facility would be the best option for the district. A new elementary facility would meet all the needs that had been identified. The process was put on hold due to the floods of 2019 and the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. After the pandemic, the school was approached about purchasing the two houses north of the current elementary. The school board then revisited the project to see if there was enough room to put an elementary school on that property. Placing the new elementary school here allows the district to keep the existing elementary open while the new elementary school is being built. The new elementary school will house Pre-K through 6th grade in one building, currently 5th and 6th grade are at the high school location. It will have space to allow for all types of learning to take place. It will have a safe and secure entrance. The administration and staff will have proper space to teach as well as prepare for their lessons. Through the visioning sessions, the term “Family, Teamwork, and Collaboration” were very important. The new elementary school is laid out in a way for all staff and students to have spaces to invoke the premise of Family, Teamwork, and Collaboration.
